System & Processes

Quick overview

We use a two-step onboarding process: a public Free Assessment to gather initial eligibility and contact details, and a formal intake after we agree to take a file. Complete the Free Assessment first so our intake team can review your background and tell you the right next steps.

How clients start a file (what you will experience)

1) Free Assessment (initial screening)

You complete our online Free Assessment form. We typically ask for:

  • Name and contact details
  • Country of citizenship
  • Education
  • Recent work history
  • Language skills
  • Relatives in Canada
  • Other background details
Resume/CV submission: The Free Assessment form lets you attach a CV/resume, or you can send it directly to canada@moyal.com if you prefer.

We use the information on the Free Assessment to determine which immigration categories are best suited to your situation and whether we can help.

2) Follow-up and evaluation

After we review your Free Assessment, a member of our intake team will contact you to discuss options and whether we can proceed.

If we agree to accept your case, we will provide a specific document checklist and instructions on how to open your file with us.

Document submission and file opening (current public process)

  • The Free Assessment page allows attachments and includes an explicit instruction to send a resume/CV to canada@moyal.com if you prefer that method.
  • Once we accept a case, we provide a tailored list of required documents and instructions for submitting them to open your file.

Communication and updates

  • Initial contact is via the contact form, phone, or email.
  • We respond to Free Assessment submissions and contact-form enquiries from our head office team.
  • When we accept a file, we will tell you which lawyer will handle the case and how we will communicate (email, phone, or if available, secure portal messaging).
  • Expect regular updates when there are material changes (filing, IRCC communications, interview requests, and final decisions). We will also notify you of any documents we still need.

Timelines and what to expect

Processing times depend on three main factors:

  1. The immigration category under which you apply
  2. How quickly you provide required documents
  3. The processing times set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

At intake we will give high-level guidance, but definitive time estimates are case-specific. For planning purposes, we can provide typical ranges for the category under which we file once we assess your case.

File management and security

  • When we open a file, we assign an internal file record and provide instructions for the documents needed to open the file.
  • Our public Free Assessment process includes submitting a resume/CV via form attachment or by email to canada@moyal.com.

Payments and retainers

  • Start by completing the Free Assessment.
  • Fees vary by case.
  • We provide a fee estimate after the initial assessment.
  • When we accept a case, we include payment instructions with the retainer letter.

Operational notes for staff (what to tell clients)

  • Always ask the client to start by completing the Free Assessment or the Contact Us form.
  • Confirm receipt by email and call if the case seems time-sensitive.
  • If the client sends large files by email, advise whether we accept those by email or whether we will provide a secure upload link (if available) with instructions on maximum file size and permitted file types.
  • After acceptance: send the document checklist, open the file in our case-management system, assign the internal file number, and confirm the expected next milestones.
